Autoimmune Disease Panels
Rheumatoid Factor
This is usually found in collagen vascular diseases such as SLE, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderna, Sjogren’s syndrome, and also in other conditions such as leprosy, tuberculosis, syphilis, malignancy, thyroid disease and a percentage of normal elderly patient. You do not have to be fasting for the test
ANA Screen, IFA with Reflex to Titer and Pattern
This assay is used for differential diagnosis of primary, secondary, and tertiary hypothyroidism, as well as for screening for hyperthyroidism. It also enables adjustment of exogenous thyroxine dosage in hypothyroid patients and in patients on suppressive thyroxine therapy for thyroid neoplasia.
CRP
Increased levels of C- Reactive Protein are found in inflammatory conditions including: bacterial infection, rheumatic fever, active arthritis, myocardial infarction, malignancies, and in the post-operative state. This test will not detect the small elevations that are associated with increased cardiovascular risk. You do not have to fast for this test.
Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
Useful in differentiating inflammatory and neoplastic diseases and as an index of disease severity. CRP is also useful in monitoring inflammatory disease states.
Celiac Disease Profile
Celiac disease stems from an immune response to gluten in genetically sensitive individuals. While the diagnosis primarily relies on a small intestine biopsy, serologic tests, including tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG, IgA) and endomysial antibody (EMA, IgA), play a supportive role and aid in confirming the diagnosis and assessing dietary compliance.
Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase
Elevated GGT is indicative of various liver diseases and is used in the diagnosis and treatment of alcoholic cirrhosis, primary and secondary liver tumors, and conditions such as obstructive jaundice, cholangitis, and cholecystitis. Normal GGT levels help differentiate between skeletal and hepatobiliary diseases suggested by elevated alkaline phosphatase.
AST (SGOT)
AST is widely distributed in various tissues, including the heart and liver. Elevated serum AST levels are observed in myocardial infarction, hepatitis, liver necrosis, cirrhosis, and liver metastasis.
Liver Function Panel
This panel is useful for assessing liver injury, diagnosing liver diseases, and monitoring treatment and adverse effects of hepatotoxic drugs. It includes various markers such as ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin, albumin, and total protein, which aid in evaluating liver function and diagnosing liver disorders.
Uric Acid
Measuring serum uric acid is valuable in diagnosing and treating various renal and metabolic disorders, such as renal failure, gout, leukemia, psoriasis, starvation, and in patients receiving cytotoxic drugs.
Alanine Aminotransferase
ALT measurements are valuable in diagnosing and managing liver diseases such as viral hepatitis and cirrhosis. Elevated ALT levels predominantly indicate liver diseases, as ALT is primarily concentrated in the liver. When measured alongside AST, ALT helps differentiate between liver and heart issues. While normal ALT levels, combined with elevated AST, suggest cardiac disease, slight ALT elevations may occur in cases involving extensive heart muscle damage.
Sjogren Antibodies
Sjögren's antibodies (SS-B) are detected in around 15% of Sjögren's Syndrome patients and are only present if Sjögren's antibody (SS-A) is also detected. The presence of both antibodies strengthens the diagnosis of Sjögren's Syndrome and conveys prognostic information.
Alanine Aminotransferase
ALT measurements are useful in diagnosing liver diseases like viral hepatitis and cirrhosis. ALT, primarily found in the liver, is significantly elevated only in liver diseases. When measured alongside AST, it helps differentiate between liver and heart issues. Notably, ALT is not typically elevated in cases of myocardial infarction, so a normal ALT in conjunction with an elevated AST suggests cardiac disease.
Tissue Transglutaminase
Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody, IgA, is valuable in diagnosing gluten-sensitive enteropathies, including Celiac Sprue Disease, and the associated skin condition, dermatitis herpetiformis.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease Differentiation Panel
This panel is useful in the diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel diseases and can help to distinguish patients with ulcerative colitis from those with Crohn's Disease.
